The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers has issued a statement saying it has not seen a market for decorative mirrors since 1996, when the number of decorative mirrors fell by 50 percent in the United States.
In 1996, there were just 2,000 to 3,000 decorative mirrors per year, the society said.
In 2016, the number was 1,000.
“This decline in decorative mirrors is being driven primarily by an inability to buy new decorative mirrors,” the statement said.
The society’s statement is a warning to any company or person thinking of buying decorative mirrors.
A 2017 survey by The Associated Press found that the American Mirror Company (AMC), the leading supplier of decorative glass, was on track to meet demand for about 4.7 million decorative mirrors by the end of 2019.
The AMC sells decorative mirrors for $20,000 per pair.
The company says that the price per mirror has increased more than 300 percent since 2000, when AMC started offering decorative mirrors at about $50 per pair for a set of six.
AMC sells about 1 million pairs of decorative mirror sets annually, according to a spokesman.
Forbes magazine recently ranked AMC at No. 11 among the top 50 American companies, and it reported that AMC was also the largest provider of decorative items in the country.
It’s unclear whether AMC is offering decorative mirror services for the new year.
But if the company is offering them for sale, it’s not likely to be a cheap one.
At the AMC store in Northfield, Massachusetts, a shelf full of decorative mirrored furniture is selling for $600 per mirror.
